Reimagining the Commons

(Provisional) Park is a temporary indoor park that is open to the public inside Co-Prosperity Sphere. The park will be made entirely from houseplants on temporary loan from Chicagoans. It will be open daily from 6am-11pm in March 2015. (Provisional) Park is a creative project conceived by artist Allyson Packer and made possible through the participation of many individuals and organizations in Chicago. Unlike a typical gallery show, however, (Provisional) Park is designed to operate as a resource for community members to relax, play or organize their own events. The Park is open now through Friday April 3rd, 2015.

Reimagining the Commons

Organized by The Perch

Please read this message as an invitation to a conversation. We are interested in discerning what constitutes 'the commons', and we invite your thoughts and contributions in a casual, open forum. How might we imagine "the commons" today in relation to our daily lives and environments? In relation to the psychology of urban space, the divide between public space vs. private space, or notions of ownership and access to resources? This symposium is hosted in collaboration with artist Allyson Packer, whose installation (Provisional) Park has temporarily transformed Co-Prosperity Sphere into a public park space assembled from loaned and donated houseplants. Lunch and beverages, courtesy of The Perch, will be served with dialogue.

As part of this event's guiding thematic, we are also interested in exploring the possibilities of barter or sharing-based systems as alternative models of engagement. We kindly ask that you please bring along an item to exchange with the group after lunch."
